Words from the Dean: Going Online

We’re so thrilled to hear about all the great things happening in your lives that sometimes we forget to share the exciting news in our own!

The School of Communications is now offering two graduate degrees that can be completed entirely online — an MA in Communications Management and a MA in Public Relations. It’s an exciting opportunity for students looking to interact with peers across the street or across an ocean.

We’re pretty proud of the programs, but our greatest success is measured through the experience of our alumni. And who would have thought one of the most ringing endorsements of our program would come from a chance encounter in Salt Lake City

It’s exactly what happened in November at the international convention of the Public Relations Society of America.

Director of Graduate Studies Susan Seymour set up a full booth at the convention, complete with a working laptop and informational handouts, designed to promote the growing online programs we offer.

A woman at the conference approached the booth to share her personal experience. She earned her MA in Communications Management online from Webster and loved the experience! She started promoting the program to others around the booth, talking about her hesitations of taking online classes and, eventually, how she came to love the program. We couldn’t have made a better sales pitch ourselves.

Assistant Professor Gary Ford, also attending the conference, looked up to ask the woman her name. She told him and he replied, “I was your teacher!”

You can imagine the look on the faces of those standing nearby! Just another example of how we’re all connected, whether it’s through the shared experiences in a traditional classroom or the online learning environment of our newest programs.
