Mother/Daughter Duo Making a Name for Themselves

Webster University alumna Taran Hensley will grace the red carpet later this month at the 37th Annual Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards in Las Vegas, Nev. — and it’s a gourmet pretzel that got her there.

Hensley (BA, Media Communications, 2003) is a marketing professional, an entrepreneur and president of Mom’s Originals, a local business specializing in gourmet pretzels, treats and more. Hensley and her mother Jody will travel to the ceremony to distribute their treats to stars traversing the red carpet.

An estimated 1,400 guests are expected to depart with an Official Emmy Gift Bag.”I don’t think the paparazzi is going to be all over us or anything, but who knows what’s going to happen?” Hensley said. “We’re pretty excited.”

The 37th Annual Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards will be broadcast live from 8 to 10 p.m. CDT on CBS Television.

Mom’s Originals was invited to include its product in the Daytime Emmy gift bags after they were such a hit at the Sports Emmy Awards in April. They landed in the gift bag for the Sports Emmy Awards by chance.

Off the Wall Gifts, the coordinator of gift bags for the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, discovered Mom’s Originals while conducting its annual search for emerging companies with a great product that simply needs  a little publicity. Mom’s Originals fit the bill.

“Mom” Jody Hensley specializes in making the delicious treats, while “Daughter” Taran Hensley trades upon her media communications background earned at Webster to market and sell them to customers. Clients include the St. Louis Convention and Visitors Commission, Ritz-Carlton, the Westin, Monsanto, and the Busch Stadium suites.

Mom’s Originals gourmet pretzels are hand-wrapped in caramel then dipped in milk or dark chocolate. Finally, they’re either drizzled with white chocolate or rolled in pecans or walnuts.
